With training and experience in psychiatric nursing, marriage and family therapy, and bioenergetic analysis, I have been practicing psychotherapy for decades. I work primarily with adults and couples. As a registered nurse and a certified bioenergetic therapist I view the client as a whole, body/mind individual.
If you and I decide we want to work together, we will form a collaborative team. I view therapy as a journey through the sacred territory of the human soul. I believe that within you there is a deep wisdom that knows how to heal your psyche. As a therapist my expertise is to assist you in removing obstacles to that natural process. Your expertise is your knowledge of yourself, both conscious and unconscious. I use many approaches, working both verbally and with the body. In witnessing your human story in depth, with curiosity and compassion, we help to facilitate personal growth.
I also believe strongly in the power we have to heal ourselves through our own healthful and pleasurable lifestyle choices. I teach relaxation and stress reduction as needed and encourage (never nag of course) clients to use wholesome food, exercise, meditation, the arts and play as part of their treatment.
My clientele is highly diverse as are the issues they bring in. I don’t think of myself as a specialist; together you and I will specialize in understanding you. I have however had extensive experience with clients traumatized in childhood or adulthood, often using EMDR and bioenergetic methods to assist in the recovery process.
As a member of the Bioenergetic Society of San Diego since 1980, I have been privileged over several years to serve on the Board of Directors and to teach in the Introduction to Somatic Relational Therapy program.
